Fair Use

I watched "The Original Scary Mary Poppins' Recut Trailer" on youtube to view and analyze how the creator followed fair use. The video followed all the guidelines for a fair use video. The video was transformative because they used the movie but completely rearranged the sequence of the clips and made it their own. They also took out the original music and added their own. It was proportional because they only used some of the footage from the original movie. Lastly, they gave proper credit to all resources that they used to create their movie. This movie was a good example of a fair use video.

This American Life/ Radio Lab

I watched two podcasts from the radio stations "This American Life" and "Radio Lab." From This American Life I watched "Is That What I Look Like?" I watched the segment "One Life to Live."
http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/526/is-that-what-i-look-like?act=2#play From Radio Lab I watched "What Do Dolphins Talk About?" http://www.radiolab.org/story/what-do-dolphins-talk-about/

Both radio shows had a lot in common. They both used similar techniques to enhance their show such as adding music very often both during pauses and behind the talking. They also kept peoples reactions included and did not trim the "Oh wow's " or "Really?"'s out. This adds a more personal level to the show and makes it more of a casual conversation then a report.

A difference I noticed was that in This American Life they had a conversation led by one person/interviewer. This person guided the whole conversation where as Radio Lab had more of an open discussion with many people talking and commenting on the story being told.

I liked the more formal/guided conversation because it was much easy to follow and we got to understand the interviewer and her opinions and purpose, rather than hearing many different voices at one time. Both shows were interesting and creatively done.

PathFinder InDesign

When I went on in design I created a circle and filled it with a peach color. Then I added a stroke to the circle. When adding a stroke I not only thickened it, but changed the stroke style to be a much more small circles surrounding the main one, and changed their colors. Then I created a star using our knew knowledge and formatted that one as well. Then I used pathfinder to subtract the star into the main circle. Then I created one more star with a funky stroke and subtracted that one into the middle of the other star. This is how I created my logo!

Color Swatches

I decided on this color theme so that I could have different HPU colors. This gives me inspiration for the HPU brochure passport project.

Photo Story Edits

This is my original photo

Here I changed the levels to adjust the brightness by moving the black and white undertones to make her face brighter and clearer.

Here I adjusted the curves with an auto default to make the picture have a different contrast.

Here I added vibrance to the picture which makes the image pop more and I barely adjusted the saturation because doing that makes the colors change too much.

Blog Photo Story

I have decided to do my photo story on my friend Sara's birthday night. Tomorrow, Wednesday September 3rd is my friends first birthday at college away from her loving family and friends. A group of us decided to do our best to fill Sara's night with fun and friends to ensure a memorable birthday with  new friends away from home!
This story is significant because we are all newly arrived freshman who are trying to find our way here at High Point University. Sara is the first birthday we will all be together and we are all excited and hopeful for a fun night with all our new friends! Since her birthday is tomorrow I will get my pictures taken very soon with plenty of time left to play around with editing. I will take shots such as
candids of her in her birthday outfit/crown
the group walking
laughing
dinner
drinks
decorations
cake/candles
and more.
It would be tough to return to the scene to take more pictures if I find it necessary so I will take many pictures and always work the shot to make sure all the pictures I take will be useable and up to par! I will also be sure my phone is fully charged to ensure no technical problems!

About Me

Hi, my name is Kendra Bickford and I am a freshman this year.
I enjoy dancing, and hanging out with friends. I am from Moultonborough, NH which is a small town most people barely know how to pronounce, but I love it! I have a house on the lake and spend all my summers by the water or on the boat with friends and family. Academically, I enjoy public speaking, writing, and culture. As for getting involved on campus, I plan to run for a 2018 class representative, try out for the dance team, rush, and join a club that gives back. I am very excited to see what this year will bring!
